Peat moss skeptic after a bad batch in 2019, now I swear by it

I had a pallet of peat from a big box store that turned into concrete in my raised beds back in 2019, so I swore it off completely. Then a grower at the farmers market in Boise told me to check the moisture content at purchase, anything under 45% is dead weight. I grabbed a bag from a nursery supplier last month, hydrated it properly with 3 gallons of water, and my seedlings actually took off. Anyone else have a brand or source that holds moisture better than others?
