Hit 100k miles on my truck and it broke down the same week.

I totally get what you mean about it feeling like a countdown timer (and honestly, that's way more stressful than a milestone). It's like you're not celebrating progress, you're just waiting for that next big task to smack you in the face. Once you start seeing it that way, it's hard to unsee, but at least you know what you're dealing with.

That time an old machinist told me I was filing brass all wrong

Dragging the file across the metal" - that one got me too. I spent years filing rods and small brackets by pushing down hard, never could get a clean finish. Then a gunsmith friend watched me for about ten seconds and said "you're fighting the file, let it do the work." Turned out I was also using a file that was way too fine for the job. Switched to a single cut bastard file and started pulling lightly, night and day difference on how smooth the surface came out.

Took me 3 days to figure out why my hen stopped laying eggs

Blamed myself for three days thinking she was just being stubborn or maybe she was getting too old. Turned out I had been giving her too many oyster shell supplements. Thought I was helping but overdoing calcium can actually do the opposite and make the shells too thick or weirdly shaped. Then the egg just sits there because it can't move through right. Now I only give it every other day and mix it into their feed instead of letting them free choice it.

Rant: Our town hall this week went completely off the rails

Actually abbyd36, the original post said it was 30 people who dropped off, not 40. Might seem like a small difference but when you're talking about a meeting that started with 80 people, losing almost half is a big deal. You're right about the Chicago office though, smaller groups definitely work better for real conversations.

Vent: Spent 5 years listing my Lynnwood house with staged photos before I realized buyers just want to see the actual layout.

My realtor did this with a 12x14 living room in 2018 and it backfired hard. People showed up expecting an open concept great room and got a normal sized box instead. I learned then that honest square footage details in the listing are way better than camera tricks.
