My $9 tube of silicone saved a $700 shower pan install and I feel like a genius
Picked up a cheap shower pan for a flip house in Mesa last month and the drain flange wouldn't sit flush no matter how I shimmed it. I was about to cut the whole thing out and eat the cost when the guy at the tile shop down the street told me to run a fat bead of silicone under the flange and let it set for 24 hours before I bolted anything down. I tried it on a scrap pan first because I figured it would just ooze out, but it actually filled the gap and gave me a solid seat. Bolted it down the next day and the pan passed a 4 hour leak test with zero drips. Total fix cost me $9 instead of a new pan and a wasted Saturday. Anybody else have a trick like that where the cheap fix beat the obvious expensive one?
