Saw a guy at the Nashville flea market fix a $3 lamp with a part from a toaster, now I am hooked
I was at the Nashville flea market two Saturdays ago and watched a vendor take a lamp someone bought for $3 and swap in a switch he pulled from a dead toaster. He had it working in about 4 minutes with just a screwdriver and some electrical tape. I bought the lamp off him for $8 after and now I want to try this myself on the two broken lamps sitting in my garage. What is the dumbest dead appliance you have pulled a part from to fix something else?

I fixed a lamp with a switch from a busted coffee maker last year. The pot had died but the rocker switch was the same size as the one in my lamp, so I pulled it, checked it with a multimeter to make sure it worked, and wired it in. Still going strong. The dumbest part I ever saved was a knob off a dead crock pot that I glued onto a dresser drawer. Not electrical, but it fit and it looked fine. Those broken lamps in your garage are a good place to start, just kill the power at the breaker first and take a picture of the wiring before you touch anything.
