A tech at the shop told me my pad slap was garbage and he was right
I used to just pull the old pads and shove new ones in without touching the rotors, and a guy named Dave at a shop in Toledo told me I was basically throwing money away doing it that way. Turns out my pads were only lasting 18k miles because the grooves in the rotor were chewing them up, so now I resurface or replace rotors every single time. Anyone else get called out like that, or am I the only one who was cutting that corner?
Ever notice how half the stuff we do is just shortcuts that come back to bite us? Like people who never change their furnace filter and then wonder why the thing dies in January, or guys who run oil changes to 10k miles because the sticker says so. The pad slap is the same deal, you skip the prep work and pay for it later with parts you shouldn't have needed yet. Dave wasn't wrong, he was just telling you the bill always comes due one way or another. Smart of you to actually listen instead of getting mad at the messenger.
