I put that cheap brake quiet goop on my pads and now my car sounds like a haunted house
So about three weeks ago I did the front pads on my 2011 Corolla in my driveway here in Fresno and I figured hey, why not try that orange disc brake quiet stuff everybody talks about. The tube cost me $7 at the parts store and I slathered it on the back of the pads like I was frosting a cake, thinking I was being smart. First day it was dead silent and I felt like a genius. Then about day four, every time I touched the brakes at low speed I got this weird groaning moan, like the car was mad at me personally. I pulled the wheels back off and the goop had oozed out and glued the shims to the caliper in a way I did not expect. Cleaned it all off with brake cleaner, put the shims back dry, and boom, silence came back. Turns out the stuff works fine if you use a thin skin of it and let it tack up first, not a whole tube per wheel. Anyone got a brand of shim that just stays quiet without the goo, or am I doomed to hear this ghost noise forever?
