2mm is basically nothing, so that stinks but it's also kind of a normal screwup and not some big life lesson about plans. A bench drawer binding on long screws is a cheap fix, you just swap them out and move on with your weekend. Sounds less like gutting a whole plan and more like you were overdue for a trip to the hardware store.
