Warning: that $18 tube of brake grease at Autozone was the best money I ever set on fire
So I bought this little tube of brake grease for about $18 at the Autozone off Highway 9 in Woodinville last Saturday, and I figured I got played because the guy at the counter swore it would fix my squeal. My front pads had been screaming like a dying cat for two solid days every time I rolled up to a red light. I pulled the pads, cleaned the backing plates with a wire brush, and smeared a thin layer on the shims and the caliper contact points like he told me. First stop sign after that, dead quiet. I sat there at the light with the window down just listening, waiting for the noise, and nothing came. That was 900 miles back and I still have half the tube left in my glovebox. What gets me is I almost dropped $300 on new rotors and a whole pad kit because some guy on a forum said grease never works. Has anyone else had a cheap fix actually stick, or did it come back to bite you later?
