That $180 laser level I swore I'd never buy just saved my whole day

Been laying brick for 12 years and always used a string line and a spirit level. Last month I finally caved and spent 180 bucks on a rotary laser level from the hardware store in Fresno. First job with it, I was setting a long garden wall and the thing caught a 1/4 inch slope in the foundation that my old eyeballing missed completely. Ripped the first two courses out and re-laid them flat. Anyone else find that fancy tools pay for themselves the first time they catch a mistake on a long run, or is that just me justifying the expense?
