Tried the string line trick my uncle showed me in his garage in Fresno, 20 years late
So I spent last Saturday laying a garden wall out back and my courses kept drifting on me, like a quarter inch off over 10 feet. I was fighting it with a 4 foot level and getting nowhere, cussing at the blocks for an hour. Then I remembered my uncle showing me something in his garage in Fresno when I was like 12, and he used a plain mason's line tied off to two stakes with a little block of wood hanging on it to keep tension. I set the line and eyeballed every course against it instead of chasing bubbles, and the wall came out dead straight on the first try. Took me way longer to trust it than to actually do it, which is embarrassing. Anyone else got a dumb simple trick like that sitting in the back of their head from an old timer? Because I clearly need to dig more of these out before my next job.
