That one Tuesday last month when my car repair ate my whole food budget

I drive a 2008 Honda Civic and the alternator died on a Tuesday. $450 later I had to live off rice and beans for the rest of the week. Has anyone else had a single expense wreck their budget for the month?

Used to think having an emergency fund wasn't that important, but this kind of thing totally changed my mind. $450 for a repair wrecked your whole month's budget?

Oh man yeah @walker.robert you're not wrong! I had to drop $380 on a new water heater last year and it absolutely wrecked my whole month. I had to put groceries on credit card and skip a couple nights out with friends just to make it work. That was the moment I finally started taking emergency funds seriously too, now I always keep at least a grand tucked away just for stuff like this.
