The $0.50 envelope method got me to actually track my spending
I tried every budgeting app out there, YNAB, Mint, all of them, and I'd quit after 2 weeks because it felt like a second job. Last month my cousin in Austin showed me her envelope system, but not the cash kind. She just labels 5 envelopes with categories and drops receipts in them, then tallies once a week. It took me 10 minutes every Sunday and I finally saw where my $400 in takeout was going. Has anyone else found a dumb simple tracking trick that beat the fancy apps?
