The $227 grocery bill that made me track every receipt for a month
My sister looked at my receipt last month and pointed out I spent $227 on groceries for just me, and $60 of that was stuff I threw out later. So I started saving every receipt in a jar and writing the total on it, and after four weeks I saw I was buying the same $9 hummus three times without eating it. How do you all keep track of what you actually eat versus what you just buy?
The $9 hummus thing is so real, I do that with yogurt every single time and then find like four half eaten tubs in the back of the fridge. I mean it's the same pattern everywhere right, we buy the idea of eating healthy or cooking at home more than we buy the actual food. Same reason people own gym memberships they never use or buy books they never read, the buying part feels like the doing part for a second. Maybe it's just me but writing the total on the receipt like you did seems like the one thing that actually forces you to look at it instead of shoving it in a drawer.
