I used to think a bag of dried beans was just a pantry backup. Now it's my main ingredient.

My pantry has like five different kinds of beans now. I made a black bean soup last week that was so good I ate it for three days straight.

I called about a broken lawnmower and the guy on the phone asked if I'd tried turning it off and on again.

Hold on, they seriously asked that about a lawnmower? That's tech support for computers, not small engines. You can't just reboot a Briggs and Stratton like it's a laptop. Maybe they were just on autopilot from a long day of calls. Still, that's a pretty wild thing to hear when you're just trying to get your grass cut.

I dropped almost $400 on a full set of those fancy magnetic socket holders and I'm calling it a waste now.

Yeah those magnetic trays are a total trap for a working garage. The metal dust sticks to them and makes a mess. What worked for me was just getting a cheap parts washer brush and giving the rails a quick scrub with some simple green every Friday before closing up. Keeps the sockets from getting gritty and you don't have to fight to pull them off.

Watching a guy try to finish a slab with a leaf blower in Phoenix last summer

My uncle in Florida used a shop vac to dry his patio slab before a storm. It looked rough but held up for years. Sometimes the weird fix is the right one.

Showerthought: Coding loops finally made sense when I tracked my tool loans

You're still using that broken tool list as an example?
