Vent: my neighbor paid off $11k of card debt in 14 months and his trick was boring
Talked to my neighbor Dave over the fence last Saturday while I was fixing a gate, and he mentioned he wiped out $11,400 in credit card debt in 14 months. I asked what app or plan he used, and he said none, he just called each card company and asked for a lower interest rate, then set up auto payments every payday. Two of the three cards cut his rate from around 24% down to 12% just from one phone call, which he said took maybe 20 minutes total. The rest was just keeping his old truck running and not eating out, nothing fancy. I always figured you needed some system or spreadsheet to get ahead, but he made it sound like a boring phone call and patience. Has anyone else had luck asking for a lower rate, and did they actually say yes for you?
