That time a stranger fixed my swollen battery with a spoon and ice
Was waiting for a bus in Portland last week and this guy saw me struggling with my old laptop battery that was literally ballooning out of the case. He said 'bro, that's a lithium fire waiting to happen' and showed me how to safely pry it out using a plastic spudger and then cool it on a bag of ice for 20 minutes before disposal. I know it sounds sketchy but he used to work at a repair shop on Powell Blvd and his trick saved me from wrecking the motherboard. Anyone else ever used the ice trick or should I just buy a $45 replacement battery instead?
