Tried the rice bag trick on a soaked iPhone 11 and the charging port came back 2 days later
My kid dropped his iPhone 11 in the sink while doing dishes. I did not have any silica packs so I buried it in a ziplock of dry basmati rice for 48 hours. Pulled it out, still showed the water drop warning on the lightning port, so I figured it was done. On day 3 I hit the port with a soft toothbrush and some 91 percent isopropyl and it started charging like nothing happened. The rice did nothing for the port but it did pull moisture out of the speaker because the sound came back clear. Now I keep a bottle of isopropyl on the shelf and skip the rice. Has anyone actually had rice fix a water damaged phone or is that just something we all pass around?

The toothbrush and isopropyl thing is the real fix here, not the rice. That water drop warning lives in the port because corrosion starts forming on the pins almost right away, and rice can't touch that. A soft brush with 91 percent alcohol breaks up the gunk and pushes the water out of the tiny gaps. Same deal with the speaker, the rice pulls surface moisture but the alcohol is what actually cleans the contacts. Your post should honestly be the go to answer whenever someone asks about the rice trick.
