Watched a local artist lose 300 followers for a joke he made 8 years ago

I followed this guy on Instagram who makes dark humor comics. Someone dug up a tweet from 2016 where he joked about mental health, and within 2 days he lost 300 followers and got kicked out of a small gallery show. The tweet was dumb but it was also clearly a joke, not something he actually believed. My question is, does digging up old jokes that don't match today's standards seem fair, or should people just know better by now?

That $20 edging tool from Harbor Freight actually did the job

I was dead set against using cheap tools for concrete work after a bad experience with a warped float last year. But my neighbor let me borrow his cheap edger for a patio pour in Phoenix and it left a cleaner finish than my expensive one somehow. Has anyone else found a random budget tool that outperforms the high-end stuff?

My stand mixer pulley belt snapped mid-batch of sourdough yesterday

It was right after I'd mixed in 6 cups of flour for a double batch, so I grabbed a hand whisk and finished by arm power, but now I'm wondering if there's a way to check these belts before they fail, or is it just luck of the draw?

That moment I overheard a bakery owner say sourdough starters are overrated...

I was picking up a birthday cake last Saturday and heard the owner tell a customer she uses commercial yeast in everything because starters are inconsistent. It made me rethink my whole sourdough obsession for the last 2 years. Has anyone else found their bread actually turns out better without the starter fuss?

My $25 camp stove decision that left me eating cold beans

I bought this tiny butane stove from a discount store last month, figuring it would save weight in my pack. First night out in the Smokies, the igniter stopped working and I had to eat cold chili out of the can. Anyone else ever had luck getting those little stoves to actually last more than one trip?

Had to choose between an envelope system and a locked safe for my cash

I was keeping my grocery money in an envelope but my roommate kept borrowing from it. So I bought a $25 lockbox from Harbor Freight in Austin. Now I have to physically unlock it every time I need cash, which stops me from impulse buys and keeps my roommate honest. Has anyone else dealt with roommates and cash hiding?

Rant: That 'entry level' warehouse job I took in Atlanta turned into a 2 year trap

I started at a fulfillment center in Atlanta back in June 2022 because they promised growth. Two years later I'm still stacking boxes for $16.50 an hour with zero raises. They hired 3 managers from outside instead of promoting anyone. Has anyone else seen this bait and switch with warehouse jobs?

My buttercream split while frosting cupcakes at my sister's baby shower last Saturday

I was in her cramped kitchen in Phoenix trying to pipe rosettes on 48 cupcakes when my buttercream suddenly looked like scrambled eggs, probably because the butter was too cold from the fridge. I read online that microwaving 10 seconds and whipping on high could save it, so I tried that and it came back together after about 3 minutes of mixing. Has anyone else had their frosting go grainy and fixed it with just a heat gun or bowl of warm water?

Had to choose between staying in the suburbs or moving downtown after 10 years

I picked the suburbs because my commute was already 20 minutes shorter than driving downtown for errands. Two years later I still miss walking to coffee shops, but saving 3 hours a week on driving feels like a win. Anyone else make that call and regret or stick with it?
