Vent: my kid dumped a whole cup of juice on my laptop and the rice trick is a total scam
So last Tuesday my 6 year old knocked a full cup of apple juice right onto my open laptop on the kitchen table in Fresno, and I did the whole rice bag thing for three days because that's what everybody says to do. It powered on for like ten seconds and then died for good. Took it to a shop on Blackstone and the guy opened it up and showed me sticky dried juice all over the board and corrosion already eating the pins, and he said the rice does nothing except let the liquid sit there longer. If I had pulled the battery and flushed the board with rubbing alcohol that same night, he said I probably would've saved it. Instead I'm out $480 for a new one. The rice advice needs to die already. Has anyone actually saved a wet laptop by taking it apart right away instead of burying it in a bag of grains?
