Can we talk about rice vs pasta when you are feeding 4 people on $60 a month?
So back in March I had $60 left for groceries for the whole month and 4 mouths to feed, me, my wife, and two kids who eat like they are training for something. I sat in the Aldi parking lot in Tulsa and did the math on my phone, because a 10 pound bag of rice was $7.49 and pasta was running about $1.29 a box and I could not tell which one actually stretched further. I grabbed the rice first but at the last second swapped it out for pasta, thinking the kids would actually eat it without a fight, which was the whole point. Three days in they were tired of spaghetti and I was scraping the bottom of the pot by day 12, so we were back at the store anyway burning gas. Second run I got the rice and a $3 bag of dried beans and we coasted all the way to the 28th with leftovers in the fridge, no joke. Turns out a cup of dry rice is like 4 times the food of a box of pasta for about the same money if you cook it right. Anyone else done this same swap and had it blow up in their face, or is it just me?
