That trip to the discount grocery changed my mind about frozen veggies

I always thought fresh was cheaper and better until I walked into an Aldi last week and saw bags of frozen broccoli for 89 cents each. My neighbor grabbed three and said she feeds her family of four on $50 a week using mostly frozen produce. Has anyone else switched over and seen a real difference in their grocery bill?

Oh man, frozen veggies are honestly a game changer once you get past that weird idea that fresh is always better. I switched a few years back after I got tired of watching fresh spinach turn into sludge in my fridge within days. Ngl, the savings add up fast, especially on stuff like broccoli and mixed peppers that I use in stir fry or soups all the time. Plus like your neighbor said, the bags last forever so you're not throwing money away on food that goes bad before you eat it. Tbh the quality is fine too as long as you're not trying to eat them raw or anything.

Honestly, you said "the bags last forever" but that's not exactly right. Frozen veggies are good for months, not literally forever, and they can get freezer burn if you leave them in too long. Still, you're spot on that they last way longer than fresh stuff.

I read a study that said frozen broccoli actually keeps its vitamin C better than fresh after a week in the fridge, so @patricia42 you're totally right to push back on the "forever" thing. The USDA says frozen veggies are good for 8-12 months at 0°F, but if your freezer door gets opened a lot, you might only get 6 months before quality drops. I've definitely tossed a bag of frozen peas that got all frosty and weird after a year tucked in the back.
