Hostel in Lisbon used to cost me 12 euros a night, went back and it's 45 now
I stayed at this place near Rossio Square back in 2016 and it was 12 euros a night for a bunk. Went back this spring and the same room is 45 euros, which honestly made me laugh out loud at the front desk. What got me though was they added a fancy rooftop bar and a co-working space, and the free breakfast went from bread and cheese to a full spread with fresh pastries. The owner said the neighborhood changed after 2020 when remote workers started renting long term. I get it, people need to make a living, but it felt weird paying more for a bed than my old rent share. Has anyone found a city where the hostel prices haven't gone nuts yet? I'm looking for somewhere in Portugal or Spain that still feels like the old days.
