Just booked a "4 star" in Naples for $48 a night, here's the catch

I got there and the showerhead was wired to a bucket, then I realized the wifi router was duct taped to a lamp and the property had no front desk at all, just a lockbox and a text number. I did the math later and my so called deal cost me 2 extra hours of taxi rides plus the security deposit I never got back, so have you ever had a budget stay that actually ended up costing more?
