Just realized hostel kitchens are the ultimate budget hack after a disaster in Barcelona

I was in Barcelona last summer, trying to save money by eating out of a supermarket bag. Got food poisoning from some sketchy jamon iberico I bought on discount. Spent two days in a hostel bunk regretting every euro. Now I always use hostel kitchens. $3 for pasta and canned sauce beats $12 for a sad tourist menu. Anyone else learned this the hard way with street food?
