Just realized my "$200 a week" Europe trip math never included laundry
Was talking to my sister in law last Tuesday about her trip to Portugal. She asked how I managed to do 10 days in Italy for what I claimed was so cheap. I rattled off the hostel price, the train passes, the grocery store sandwiches. Then she asked what I did about clothes. I paused. I had packed 5 shirts and planned on washing them in the sink. That worked for 3 days, then everything smelled like hostel soap and regret. I ended up paying 18 euros at a laundromat in Florence, plus another 12 for detergent and dryer sheets I couldnt fit in my backpack. She laughed and said her rule is to just budget 50 dollars per week for laundry and shoe repair. Never even thought about shoe repair. Got me thinking, what other hidden costs do people always forget when they brag about their trip budget? Anyone else have a line item that never makes it into the planning spreadsheet?
