My friend told me to skip the airport bus in Lisbon and I'm glad I listened

He said the metro from the airport to the city center costs under 2 euros and is just as fast. I saved about 15 euros on a round trip and it was really easy to follow the signs. What's your best tip for getting from an airport into a city cheaply?

That metro tip is a lifesaver. What's the worst airport transfer you've ever paid for?

Thirty bucks for a ride from JFK to midtown Manhattan that took three and a half hours because the driver decided to pick up his friend's dry cleaning in Queens first. He had about fifteen garment bags stuffed in the trunk and wedged between the seats, so I was basically sharing my legroom with someone else's business suits. I paid for a shared shuttle and got a mobile laundry service with a side of gridlock.

Remember that sketchy shuttle van that smells like old fries? I once paid forty bucks to share one with a guy transporting three live chickens in a cardboard box. The driver got lost for an hour, and the rooster would NOT stop. I got to my hotel feeling like I'd been through a farmyard adventure, not a taxi ride.
