Rant: I used to think booking flights on Tuesdays was a total myth

I posted here a few months ago saying Tuesday flight deals were fake news, and a user named travel_jenny called me out. She said she worked for an airline and the real trick was checking prices at 3 AM local time on Wednesday, when their systems refreshed. I tried it for a trip to Mexico City, checking at 3 AM on a random Wednesday, and the same flight was $80 cheaper than it was at noon on Tuesday. I felt like an idiot but changed my routine. Now I set an alarm. Has anyone else found a specific time that works better than the old Tuesday rule?

Wow, that's wild... I always heard the Tuesday thing too. I started checking late on Sunday nights and found some crazy deals to Europe. It's not a perfect system but it worked for me a couple times.

Hold on, you're all just chasing ghosts. These "magic times" are total luck and you can't prove they work every time. Airlines use crazy computer programs that change prices based on tons of stuff, like how many seats are left, not just the clock. You got lucky once, but that doesn't make it a real rule. I bet if you checked that Wednesday flight again at noon, the price might have been the same or even gone up for other reasons. It makes people feel smart to find a pattern, but it's mostly random.
