I ended up refunding them to avoid a chargeback battle, and now I'm left with 40 hours of work I can't sell since it was custom to their OCs. Has anyone else dealt with clients pulling this right before payment clears?

Had a shutter seize on a Nikon F3 during a wedding shoot

Happened two weekends ago in Nashville. Mid-roll, shutter just locked up at 1/60. Client was walking down the aisle. I swapped to backup quick but when I got home I tore it down. Found old lubricant had turned to glue on the mirror box mechanism. Cleaned it with some naphtha and relubed with proper damping grease. Works fine now but I almost sent it off to a shop. Anyone else run into this on older Nikons?

Rant: Walked into a new build in Denver and the alarm wiring was a nightmare

Went to check out a customer's new construction site yesterday. Builder wanted me to do the low voltage. Walked in and saw they already ran all the alarm wires. But here's the thing. They stapled everything to the studs tight as a drum. No slack at all. And they bundled the 22 gauge stuff right next to Romex for 30 feet. I'm gonna have to rip half of it out and redo it. That's gonna cost the homeowner extra. Plus interference is gonna be a problem if I don't fix it. How do you handle builders who think they know how to rough in alarm cable?

Built a custom shelf unit for my garage and realized I screwed up the vertical spacing

I spent last weekend putting together a floor-to-ceiling shelf unit in my garage using 2x4s and plywood. Got all excited and marked the horizontal lines by eye instead of measuring each one. Ended up with one shelf that's 14 inches tall and another that's only 8 inches, which means my big bins don't fit on half of them. Now I have to pull it apart and redo the brackets this weekend. Has anyone else messed up shelf spacing and found a good trick for getting it right the first time?
