Spent $180 on nonslip shoes after my old ones sent me flying with a tray of soup
I work the lunch rush at a diner in Sacramento and about six months ago I ate it hard in the back hallway carrying a full tray of tomato soup. The floor by the dish pit gets greasy no matter how much we mop, and my cheap $30 shoes had zero grip left on the bottoms. My knee was swollen for two weeks and I had to beg the manager to let me sit between tables because standing hurt so bad. After that I went to a uniform store and dropped $180 on a pair of real kitchen shoes with the rubber tread, which felt insane at the time since I only make $16 an hour. Best money I have spent in this job, honestly, because I have not slipped once since, even on the wet floor by the walk-in. But now I am wondering if I overpaid, because a coworker swears by the $60 ones from the same brand. Has anyone here found a cheaper pair that actually holds up on a greasy floor for more than a few months?
