The $9 hostel in Lisbon that turned into a 3 day nightmare

Booked this place based on photos that looked clean, but the bunk mattress was basically a yoga mat and the shared bathroom had a broken lock. Weird part is the guy at the front desk was super nice, gave me a free city map and everything. I ended up paying $45 for a last minute hotel near the water just to get one solid night of sleep. Has anyone else gotten burned by hostel photos that were clearly taken 10 years ago?

Honestly, that front desk guy probably knew exactly what he was doing with that map, like a little guilt tax for the room he was about to give you. Tbh, I've learned the hard way that if the photos look too clean for the price, the reality is usually the opposite. $45 for one night of actual sleep sounds like a bargain after that, ngl.
