Tried a $9 hostel in Bangkok with no AC, ended up sharing a room with a chef who fed me for free
I booked the cheapest room I could find in Bangkok last November, 220 baht a night, just a fan and a bunk, and I figured I'd hate it. Turned out the guy in the bunk below me ran a food stall nearby and started bringing back extra pad thai and spring rolls most nights, so I ate better than I did at the $40 hotel across town. Has anyone else had a budget spot turn into something way better than you expected?
