TIL my grocery store marks down meat at 7am on Tuesdays, not Sundays like I thought
I showed up at my local Kroger in Dayton last Sunday at 8am hoping to score cheap chicken and the case was picked clean. A stocker named Ray saw me staring at the empty shelf and said the real markdowns happen Tuesday mornings right when they open. So I went back this past Tuesday at 6:55am and walked out with 4 pounds of chicken thighs for $6 total, which is less than I used to pay for one pack. I froze three of them and we ate the fourth that night. Has anyone else figured out their store's actual schedule, or is it different everywhere?

Four pounds for six bucks is a solid haul, so I can't knock your system. My system, on the other hand, was driving to three different stores for two months straight because I swore the markdowns were Sunday afternoons. I finally asked a guy in the meat department and he laughed at me, said it's been Wednesday at 6am the whole time. I felt like a genius detective who solved the wrong crime. I've learned it really is different everywhere, even between two Krogers in the same city. The one near me does Tuesday, but my buddy's store across town does Friday. The trick that worked for me was just asking the workers instead of guessing, because they know the schedule better than any coupon group online.
