The network guy in Portland told me to stop rebooting the router every night, and he was right
About 8 months back I was having constant dropouts at my shop, and every night I would just unplug the router for 30 seconds like clockwork. The tech who finally came out, Mike from the ISP, watched me do it once and said "every time you kill that thing you're forcing it to relearn all the traffic patterns, just leave it alone." I felt like an idiot because the problem was actually a 12 year old switch that was overheating, not the router. Fast forward to now and that router has been up for 214 days straight with zero issues. Has anyone else been told by a tech that their fix was actually the problem?
That "relearn traffic patterns" line sounds like tech talk to me. A home router holds its routing table just fine through a power cycle, I rebooted mine every Sunday for years and never lost a config. The real story in your post is that dying 12 year old switch, the reboot habit just happened to mask it until Mike showed up.
