TIL a $12 travel router fixed my shop's spotty wifi better than the new access point
Everyone told me to just buy the $180 access point for our back office, but the real problem was the signal dropping every time the bay doors opened. I put a $12 TP-Link travel router by the parts counter in June and set it as a wired bridge, and we've had zero drops since. It's not the pretty answer but it works. Anyone else skipping the fancy gear and just running a second cheap box off the switch?
That's such a good catch, and it bugs me how fast people jump to the expensive fix. The bay doors opening was the real clue, since that's a physical thing messing with the signal and no fancy access point is gonna argue with a metal door. A cheap little box placed where the signal actually needs to go makes way more sense than throwing money at a bigger box in the wrong spot. Sounds like you just paid attention to what was actually happening instead of listening to the upsell.
