Lawn tractor belt took 4 hours because I skipped the manual
The old belt snapped last Saturday and I figured I could swap it by looking at the pulleys. After three failed routing attempts and a trip to the hardware store in Peoria for a second belt, I finally opened the owner's manual and saw the tensioner had to be released with a wrench first. Has anyone else burned a whole afternoon on a part that should've been a 20 minute job?

Skip the manual every time and you learn real fast why those tensioner springs exist. I did the same thing on my zero turn mower and ended up stretching a brand new belt so bad it flopped off on the first turn. The trick that finally saved me was watching a YouTube video from some old guy in Ohio who showed the wrench trick in slow motion. Now I keep a printed copy of the belt diagram taped inside the engine cover with a zip tie holding the wrench right next to it.
