That $12 harbor freight multimeter finally died on me this morning at 6am
I used to swear by the cheap ones until I tried to diagnose a no-start on my '97 F150 and the readings kept jumping around. Switched to a $50 fluke from a pawn shop, found the bad ground wire in 10 minutes flat. Anybody else have a tool they refused to upgrade until it cost them?

That $12 meter got me by for years before it let me down, so I'd rather save the cash and just replace it.

Replacing a whole meter because it gave out after years of use seems like overkill. Plenty of people deal with a wonky meter for quite a while before it actually dies. Maybe it just needs a new battery or a quick reset. Throwing the whole thing away over a minor hiccup feels like a waste of money and plastic. Unless it's completely fried, it's probably fine. That $12 price tag might be better spent on something else.
