Tried the youtube way on my alternator and the $20 rebuild kit way, only one of them got my truck to Moab
My 2004 Tacoma started whining last month so I did what everyone says and bought a reman alternator for $180 from the parts store. Bolted it in, and 3 weeks later the same whine was back, plus my battery light flickered every time I hit a bump on I-70. Said screw it and grabbed a $22 bearing and brush kit, swapped the guts in my original Denso in about 90 minutes on a Saturday, and that thing has been dead silent for 4,000 miles now. The rebuild kit came with a better bearing than the reman had in it, which kinda blew my mind. Anyone else notice reman parts being way worse than just fixing the og part yourself?
