Flashlight died mid-hike in Red River Gorge, now I carry two

My trusty 5 year old headlamp went dark at 11pm on a sketchy trail last weekend, so I've started packing a backup $12 handheld in my pack, has anyone else had a favorite light just give up without warning?

I used to think only expensive lights were worth carrying, but that cheap backup idea totally makes sense now. My main light died once on a familiar trail and it was still scary enough that I never want to be stuck like that again. Even a $12 light beats no light, so having two is just smart.
