My old shop partner thinks pocket screws are cheating, and now I can't tell if he's right
Had coffee with my old shop partner Ray down in Springfield two weeks ago, and he looked at the face frames on my last kitchen job and said pocket screws are a shortcut for guys who can't cut a mortise. I've been building frames with pocket screws for 11 years and never had a callback, but it got in my head. So now I'm stuck between his way, which is all mortise and tenon and takes twice as long, and mine, which pays the bills. Which one of us is right here, or does it just come down to what the job actually calls for?
