Unpopular opinion: I lost 4 hours on a dovetail layout because I flipped one board end for end
I was cutting half blind dovetails for a walnut drawer last Tuesday and after marking everything out I started chopping tails and pins and nothing lined up, so I kept shaving and re-checking until the pins were sloppy. Turns out I had the pin board flipped end to end and it cost me about 4 hours of rework plus a spare board from my lumber stash. What is your go to way to keep boards oriented, pencil marks, tape, or do you just mark the face side every time?
A guy on a podcast said he draws a big arrow on the face side pointing to the front edge, and pin board marks stay on the inside face only. Simple but it stuck with me since I made the same mistake last winter.
