Watched a guy in Tucson hang 14 cabinet doors in an hour while I was still shimming my first one
I was at a shop in Tucson last month picking up some maple ply and this older guy was hanging doors on a set of uppers like it was nothing. I've always scribed and shimmed each door to the box with a folding rule, takes me 20 minutes a door easy. He was using a cheap plastic story pole he'd made from a strip of 1/4 inch ply with pencil marks for every hinge bore, and he pre-drilled all the plates on a jig at the bench before any door touched the box. Whole run of 14 doors went up in under an hour and every reveal was dead on, not one shim. I threw out my old method that same week, has anyone else switched to a story pole or do you still fit doors one at a time?
