Old timer showed me a trick for pulling coax through tight crawlspaces

He handed me a piece of PVC pipe with a notch cut in it and said "use this as a guide, kid" and I cut my time on that job in half, has anyone else used something like that?

My first try I cut the notch on the wrong side and wedged the cable right into the dirt.

Yeah cutting on the wrong side is one of those mistakes you only make once. I've had to dig a buried cable out of the dirt more times than I care to admit. A trick I picked up is to mark the face side with a chalk line before you even start cutting, that way you don't have to guess when the saw is buzzing. Also double check your hinge direction before you commit to the back cut, saves a lot of cursing later.
