Gear reviews skip over how long new boots take to feel good

It took weeks of walking before my hiking boots stopped hurting, and that wait isn't in any review I read.

Wait WHAT, they never talk about breaking them in for weeks?

Remember my old work boots, @val864, they took a month to stop hurting my feet.

Have you ever tried breaking in new leather shoes? I remember getting these stiff dress shoes for a wedding... wore them around the house for days and still got blisters. It's like they expect you to suffer in silence or something. Now I just buy used ones sometimes to skip the whole process. But then you miss out on that new shoe smell... trade-offs I guess.

Is there some secret trick to this that shoe companies are hiding from us? I did the whole wear-them-around-the-house thing too, and it feels like a total scam (like you said, they just expect the blisters). Maybe @val864 is onto something with the shock, because nobody warns you it's a weeks-long project. Honestly, the used shoe route is smart, even if you lose that new leather smell, which is kind of a sad trade.
