Is expensive gear the real problem or just people who don't know how to use it?

I see tons of reviews trashing a $40 tent because it leaked in a thunderstorm. But half the time the person didn't seam seal it or pitched it in a ditch. Which side are you on - bad gear or bad setup?

Oh man, you REALLY hit the nail on the head here. I swear half the bad reviews online are just people who set up their tent in a low spot and then blame the gear when they wake up swimming. Like, come on, a $40 tent isn't gonna be a bomb shelter, it's a piece of nylon with some poles. You gotta put in a little effort, not just throw it on the ground and expect magic.
