Just realized my cheap sleeping pad was ruining my sleep on trips

I spent months swapping between a $40 foam pad and a $20 inflatable one, but kept waking up sore until I finally tried a $100 self-inflating model last month in Vermont. Has anyone else found that mid-range option hits the sweet spot, or am I just missing something with the budget gear?

Three nights on that $20 inflatable in the Adirondacks and I woke up feeling like I'd been hit by a truck, my hip was so sore I almost cried. I mean, it's probably just my old bones talking but I finally grabbed a $80 self-inflating one and it's been a game changer for my back. Maybe the budget stuff works for lighter folks or people who sleep like a log, but I'll take the middle ground over waking up stiff any day.

People act like sleeping on the ground is supposed to be comfortable.
