My 4 year old camp stove quit on night 2 at Crater Lake and I finished dinner on a fire
Two weeks ago I hauled my old two burner stove up to Crater Lake for a three night trip. On the second evening the regulator just stopped feeding gas, no hiss, no flame, nothing. I messed with it for 20 minutes in the dark before giving up and boiling water over the fire ring instead. My dad had a stove like this one in the 90s that never needed a single part, so it stings a little. Anyone here had a regulator go bad, and is it worth replacing or should I just retire the whole thing?
My buddy Marcus had the same thing happen with his old Coleman at Sparks Lake last summer. Third morning, regulator just died mid coffee boil. He took it to a small repair shop in Bend and the guy told him the rubber diaphragm inside gets stiff after 10 plus years, especially if it sat in a hot garage. Cost him 18 bucks for the part and it fired right up. But he said if the body or the burners are rusted out too, it is not worth it. Yours quitting at night in the dark is the worst part, that would have me tossing the whole thing in the lake.
