A bartender in Portland changed my mind about a canceled chef

I was at a dive bar last Tuesday and got into it with the guy next to me about a local chef who got dropped by every restaurant group after old tweets surfaced. He had worked the line under that chef for 2 years and said the guy was a total prick but never racist, just terrible at jokes and worse at apologizing. Does the punishment fit when the offense was bad humor, not real harm, or is public perception the only thing that matters now?
