The 5-minute rule that stopped my Twitter pile-on panic

Last month I got ratioed hard for a bad joke about a local politician. I almost deleted it in 2 minutes, but a friend told me to wait 5 before touching anything. That small pause let me read the replies and see the real context I missed. I replied with a calm correction and a link to the source, and most people actually backed off. It turned a 300-reply mess into maybe 20 real arguments. Has anyone else tried waiting before reacting to a mob, or do you just pull the post fast?
