Am I the only one who puts anti seize on lug studs and watches people lose their minds about it
Every time I mention this on a car page, some guy yells that I'm gonna grease my own wheels off. But I've been running a thin swipe of anti seize on the studs of my 2004 Ranger for 6 winters here in Minneapolis and I've never had a lug back off, and I rotate my own tires 3 times a year so I'd notice. The trick is a little goes a long way, like one drop smeared on with a rag, not a big old glob. Torque still reads the same on my clicker wrench and rusted studs used to eat a whole Saturday in my driveway. Anybody else do this on a daily driver, or am I really the odd one out here?
Wait you torque them with the anti seize already on and the wrench still clicks at the same number? That is the part that blows my mind. I always heard the grease makes the torque read low so you end up way over tight and stretch the studs. Six Minneapolis winters though, that is real world proof right there. My buddy had a rusted stud snap clean off his Tacoma last spring and it turned a tire swap into a two day mess. Might have to grab a little tube and try your rag trick on my beater.
