Can we talk about how overrated cold air intakes are for budget builds
I swapped a stock airbox from a 2005 Civic into my 98 Corolla last week at the Pick-n-Pull for $12. Everyone online says you need a cold air intake for power, but my buddy with a dyno sheet proved it gained nothing on his Focus. I mean, that $200 could go toward a used camshaft or a real suspension upgrade instead. Has anyone else tried a junkyard airbox swap and actually seen better results than the hype?

Right? I did a junkyard swap on my old Saturn and it ran better than any cone filter I've seen.

Man, that's the kind of story I love hearing! So @brooke528, what was the actual junkyard part that made the biggest difference? Like, was it a specific sensor or maybe the whole intake manifold? I've always wondered if those factory setups are just tuned better for the engine's quirks than any aftermarket bolt-on. People sleep on OEM parts, but your Saturn proves the engineers knew what they were doing. Did you have to mess with the ECU at all, or did it just plug and play?
